I have been teaching Pilates since 2001. Prior to that I was a dancer and a Massage Therapist. While working as a professional dancer I developed a keen interest in injury prevention and the workings of the human body, this led first to studying Anatomy & Physiology and then to creating and leading workshops on Relaxation and Awareness. The next step was a Qualification in Therapeutic Massage and then to my training in Pilates.
My love of movement began as a child while watching my father teach and choreograph for Dublin City Ballet in Ireland. This inspired me to train as a dancer later in Stockholm, Sweden and then in London at The Rambert School.
While working as a professional dancer I developed a keen interest in injury prevention and the workings of the human body, this led first to studying Anatomy & Physiology and then to creating and leading workshops on Relaxation and Awareness. The next step was a Qualification in Therapeutic Massage.
I discovered Pilates when looking for a good system of Rehabilitative Exercise to train in to add to my Hands on treatments. It became a life changing discovery as I embarked on the Teacher training course with Body Control Pilates and became immersed in all things Pilates!
I qualified in Mat-work in 2001 and spent the next 3 years teaching classes and training in the Studio Equipment to become a fully qualified studio teacher. Since qualification I have worked for Body Control independently in London and internationally teaching private and corporate clients, sports professionals, actors and dancers and Pilates teachers. In 2006 I was asked to join their Education Team.
In 2007 I enrolled at the University of Westminster to further my knowledge in Therapeutic Bodywork. I studied there for the next 3 years studying Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Techniques, Patterns of Dysfunction and the Therapeutic Relationship.
Further recent training & development includes Pre & Post Natal Pilates, Pelvic Health & Healing Diastisis Rectii with Carolyne Anthony of The Centre for Womens Fitness. These years of study, my practice as a Bodywork & Movement Therapist, my own experience with Fascial Bodywork Therapy and my ongoing exploration of different Movement Philosophies such as yoga, QiGong and Gyrotonics combined with an ever increasing knowledge of Biomechanics helps to form my unique approach to teaching Pilates.
I now work for Body Control Pilates as a Senior Studio Teacher & Teacher Trainer and assist in Course Development & Management. I also run a private teaching practice offering Pilates & Movement Tuition to people of all ages & backgrounds. One to one training sessions are available at Body Control Pilates, Central London, in Lee, London SE12 and at Jade Pilates, Petts Wood.
